Huawei unveils Y6P and Y5P entry-level phones alongside MatePad T8 tablet

Earlier today we came across a pretty detailed leak about the entry-level Huawei Y6P and Y5P smartphones and now without much fanfare, Huawei officially unveiled both phones alongside the MatePad T8 tablet in Romania.

Huawei Y6P

The Y6P is built around a 6.3-inch IPS panel with an HD+ resolution and waterdrop notch for its 8MP selfie cam. Around the back, we find a 13MP main camera alongside a 5MP ultrawide module and a 2MP depth helper. There’s also a capacitive fingerprint scanner.

Under the hood, the Y6P brings the Helio P22 chipset alongside 3GB RAM and 64GB of storage, which is expandable. The phone also sports a beefy 5,000mAh battery but it charges over the dated microUSB port. On the software side, we have EMUI 10.1 on top of Android 10 without Google Mobile Services (GMS) in favor of Huawei’s own HMS suite.

The Huawei Y6P is available in black, green and purple colors with a starting price of RON 799 (€165). Pre-orders start tomorrow with a RON 200 (€40) discount.

Huawei Y5P

The Y5P brings a 5.45-inch TFT LCD with classic top an bottom bezels and an 18:9 aspect ratio. The back houses as single 8MP camera with LED flash while the front packs a 5MP selfie shooter.

The phone is powered by the same Helio P22 chipset as the Y6P paired with 2GB RAM and 32GB storage which is again expandable via microSD cards. The battery, however, is just 3,020 mAh and will be topped up via the microUSB port. The phone boots EMUI 10.1 with Android 10 with no GMS.

The Huawei Y5P comes in black, blue and mint colors. It goes on pre-order tomorrow for 599 RON (€125), early birds can take advantage of the same RON 200 (€40) discount.

Huawei MatePad T8

The MatePad T8 is a budget tablet with an 8-inch LCD panel of 800p (1280 x 800 pixels) resolution. Around the back, it brings a 5MP primary camera while the front packs a 2MP selfie shooter.

Under the hood, we have the eight-core MTK8768 chipset, 2GB RAM and 16/32GB internal storage which is expandable via the microSD slot. The battery comes in at 5,1000 mAh. The slate boots EMUI 10.0.1 on top of Android 10 and also skimps out on GMS services.

The Huawei MatePad T8 comes in a single blue colorway with a RON 500 (€100) pricetag and will be available later this month.
