Not only that. Knowing the principles of proper facial care can help prevent annoying skin problems such as acne, wrinkles and fine lines, and dark spots on the face.

5 steps of daily facial care

1. Wash your face properly

Are you sure you’ve been washing your face the right way? Careful. The wrong way can actually make facial skin more dull and oily, also problematic. Here’s step by step washing the right face :

Wash your hands first. The skin of the hands will be in direct contact with the skin of the face. Dirty hands actually cause bacteria and dirt to accumulate on the skin, and infect your face. So, wash your hands first!

Remove make-up. After washing your hands , it’s time to clean your face with cotton and makeup remover . You can use an oil-based remover to clean the remnants of waterproof makeup on the face, or use micellar water . Wipe clean, after that wash your face with a washcloth that has been moistened with warm water.

Wash your face with cleansing soap . Choose a face wash that suits your skin type, but to be safe, use a cream or gel . This type of facial cleanser works to help exfoliate the skin, clean the rest of the make-up, and clogged pores. Spread the soap over the entire surface of the face with gentle circular massaging movements. Use lukewarm water to wash your face.

Dry the face . Do not rub your face with a towel to dry it. Simply pat gently with a clean washcloth until the remaining water dries.

Clean your face at least twice a day, morning and night before going to bed.

You can tell if your cleansing soap is right by feeling its effect after washing your face. A good cleaning soap should not leave a tight, tugging effect on the mat. This actually indicates that your skin’s natural oils or moisturizers are gone. A good soap should make your face feel moisturised and supple after washing it.

2. Use toner, serum, and moisturizer

Immediately proceed by rubbing the toner when the skin condition still feels moist, not dripping wet but not completely dry either. This can help the toner content to absorb more optimally into the skin. Choose a toner that suits your skin type and the target problem you want to eradicate. Try not to choose a toner that contains alcohol, OK!

After using toner, continue with applying facial serum . Facial serums directly target more specific skin problems, such as accelerating skin regeneration, brightening and evening out uneven skin tone, fighting wrinkles, and eradicating acne, dark spots and hyperpigmentation .

You can use vitamin C serum or other serum according to your skin condition after washing your face in the morning. Meanwhile, at night after washing your face, it’s better to use a retinol or retinoid serum that is good for facial skin at night. Wait 3 to 5 minutes until the serum is well absorbed by the skin.

After using the serum, continue with applying moisturizer. Moisturizer is a must for every skin type, from dry to oily. Choose a moisturizing product that suits your skin type, and make sure it’s labeled noncomedogenic and hypoallergenic . Make it a habit to check the ingredients in facial cream products before using them.

2. Wear sunscreen

Wearing sunscreen is a principle of routine facial care that absolutely should not be missed. Exposure to UV rays from the sun can cause facial skin to quickly wrinkle and fine lines appear, and dark spots appear on the skin. In addition, solar radiation can increase your risk of developing skin cancer .

Use a special sunscreen for the face with an SPF of at least 50, every time you use moisturizer and before leaving the house. Don’t forget to flatten it up to the neck. Remember that sunscreen on the face does not last all day, you must reapply it to your face every 2 to 3 hours on a regular basis.

You are also advised not to be in a place that is exposed to direct sunlight. Avoid the sun between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. These hours are when the sun’s rays are the strongest.

In addition to wearing sunscreen and avoiding direct sunlight, you can also cover your face (wear a mask), wear long sleeves, hats, or even glasses when you have to be out in the sun.

3. Don’t smoke

Smoking can make your facial skin look older and wrinkles more easily. The reason is, smoking can narrow the small blood vessels in the outermost layer of skin. This will reduce blood flow and make the skin look paler. The narrowing of the vessels on the face also depletes the skin of oxygen and nutrients that are essential for healthy skin. You need skincare for get your face glow.

Smoking can also decrease the production of collagen in the body. Lack of collagen in the body risks making facial skin not supple, elastic, and bright. Keep in mind, the movement of pursing the lips repeatedly when smoking is a big cause of wrinkles in the mouth and cheek area.

4. Eat healthy food

Eating healthy foods such as green vegetables, fruit, whole grains, and eating lean meats can also be a way of facial care from within. This healthy diet in several studies is said to have an effect on preventing acne from appearing on the face.

In addition, several other studies have shown that eating foods low in fat and sugar can make facial skin healthier and more youthful.
